Delpedro Marhaen
Delpedro Marhaen is a lawyer, human rights activist, and Executive Director of the Jakarta-based Lokataru Foundation. In late August 2025, youth-led protests swept Indonesia. Several human rights organizations, including Lokataru, provided legal aid and advice to protestors.
On September 1, 2025, plain-clothes officers from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police entered Lokataru’s office, confiscated Lokataru assets, damaged a CCTV, and arrested Marhaen. Authorities allege he incited unrest and spread false information in connection with the protests, citing a Lokataru Instagram post advertising the number for Lokataru’s legal-aid complaint desk for students.
On September 4, 2025, investigators from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police searched the Lokataru office again and the Delpedro family apartment, confiscating books, research publications, and activity banners.
Marhaen remains in custody pending the outcome of the investigation. Amnesty considers him a prisoner of conscience, and HRW claims that his detention is arbitrary.
