Muhannad Al-Hassani is a human rights lawyer, activist and president of the Syrian Human Rights Organization. He was arrested in July 2009 and charged with crimes that are typically levied against pro-democracy activists. On June 2, 2011, the Syrian government released Mr. Al-Hassani.

 

 

Haitham Al-Maleh  is a human rights lawyer and activist, who was wrongly imprisoned in October 2009 for “spreading false news that could weaken the national morale.” He previously served as a judge in Syria for ten years and as the head of the Human Rights Association of Syria. On March 8, 2011, the government released Mr. Al-Maleh as part of an amnesty.
